Music & Football: A Pitch Perfect Collaboration

Music & Football: A Pitch Perfect Collaboration

Olivia Rodrigo’s new Spotify x FC Barcelona partnership proves that women are the leaders of the sports culture revolution.

Olivia Rodrigo is gearing up to release her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on June 12, 2026. Ahead of the album drop, Spotify announced that Rodrigo is the latest superstar to get her own limited-edition El Clásico FC Barcelona jersey — and the popstar’s logo was worn first by the women’s team during their match against Levante UD on May 6.

Spotify has maintained a partnership with FC Barcelona since 2022, “redefining how fans, players, and artists connect.”

The partnership, which was recently extended through 2030, has delivered custom jersey takeovers by some of the most influential global music icons: Karol G, Rosalía, and other artists have collaborated with FC Barcelona on special-edition kit branding.

Olivia Rodrigo is the latest music act to collab with the football club, representing the staggering impact women have on sports culture, as young women dominate her fanbase. Rodrigo also kicked off El Clásico weekend with her exclusive Spotify Billions Club Live show in Barcelona, visited a FC Barcelona Femení training session, and linked up with Lamine Yamal at El Clásico to celebrate the partnership.

As the 2026 World Cup approaches, interest in global football — both the men’s and women’s divisions — continues to skyrocket. According to a 2025 Nielsen Sports and PepsiCo report, women's soccer is projected to become one of the world's top 5 sports by the year 2030. The global fanbase for women’s football is expected to grow by 38% — over 800 million people — with 60% of those fans identifying as women.

Rodrigo’s new kit collab, the 2025 jersey collab between Paris Saint-Germain and BLACKPINK, and Spotify's previous partnerships with Rosalía and Karol G signify an important shift: predominantly female fandoms across popular culture are finally being catered to and can no longer be ignored. Young women are the leaders of the sports-culture revolution and key to the dynamic crossover between sports, music, and pop culture at large.
