Texas Longhorns

#1 Seed

Head Coach: Mike White

Texas changed the tides when they defeated Oklahoma in a previous series this year. Since then, Texas has held onto the No. 1 ranking. Sophomore catcher (and Big 12 Player of the Year) Reese Atwood has powered Texas through the tournament and hopes to bring the first WCWS championship trophy to Austin.

Oklahoma Sooners

#2 Seed

Head Coach: Patty Gasso

The unstoppable Oklahoma Sooners have been the talk of the tournament for the last three years. With three consecutive titles in the bag, the Sooners are hungry for a fourth after being named the No. 2 seed — no doubt putting a chip on their shoulders.

The eight teams will face off in a double-elimination tournament. Once the field is down to the final two teams, they’ll compete in a best-of-three series to crown a champion.* 

UCLA holds the most program championships, with 13 WCWS wins.* 

The WCWS has been held at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City nearly every year since 1990. The stadium was renamed earlier this year and is now called Devon Park.*

The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) sponsored softball championships from 1969 to 1982, when the NCAA started the Women’s College World Series.* 

UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez is the only person to have won an NCAA Softball Championship as both a player and coach.**
