7 BREAKOUT ATHLETES TO WATCH IN 2025

Last year, women’s sports catapulted itself to new heights, thanks in part to stars like Ilona Maher, A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, and Simone Biles establishing themselves as household names. Now, these seven athletes have a chance to dominate women’s sports in a similar fashion, and become stars in 2025.

LILY YOHANNES ⚽

Lily Yohannes, the 17-year-old soccer sensation known for her speed and poise on the field, made her U.S. national team debut earlier this year but was undecided on whether she’d represent the U.S. or the Netherlands. On November 12, Yohannes announced her commitment to representing the U.S. in her national team career. Now that her future is decided, Yohannes will have the chance to solidify her role as a must-play midfielder for the national team in 2025.

MICHAELA EDENFIELD 🥎

Michaela Edenfield, a senior on the Florida State University softball team, is known for her incredible makeup looks behind her catcher’s mask. But don’t get it twisted — her game is just as impressive as her cosmetic designs. Edenfield is a leader on the field for the Seminoles, and earned a spot on the 2024 USA Softball Player of the Year watchlist and 2024 All-ACC Team. Despite her personal success last year, Edenfield will be focused on pushing the Seminoles as they vie for the opportunity to return to the Women’s College World Series after narrowly missing the tournament last season.

CROIX BETHUNE ⚽

The 2024 Rookie of the Year and Midfielder of the Year was already making an impact in the NWSL until a torn meniscus cut her season short. In just 17 games this season, the Washington Spirit midfielder amassed ten assists and five goals. Bethune also notched three caps with the USWNT before her injury. Bethune will be back on the field for the 2025 season, and we expect she’ll pick up right where she left off — dishing incredible passes and scoring goals for both club and country.

TA’NIYA LATSON 🏀

If you haven’t watched Ta’Niya Latson commanding the court for the Florida State University Seminoles, you’re missing out. Latson has been on a tear this season, averaging an NCAA-leading 27 points per game so far this year (as of December 29). Despite FSU not always grabbing the national spotlight, Latson earned recognition as the #14 player on the World Exposure Report Top 50 Players to Watch list.

MADISEN SKINNER 🏐

Texas volleyball star Madisen Skinner’s collegiate career ended in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2024 NCAA tournament, but that doesn’t mean she’s done repping the Lonestar state. Skinner recently signed with the LOVB Austin team and will make her professional debut when the league’s inaugural season tips off in early January. Skinner’s three NCAA championships, experience, and camaraderie with her fellow Texas alum teammates should make her feel right at home with LOVB Austin.

CAMERON BRINK 🏀

Cameron Brink’s promising rookie campaign was cut short when she suffered a torn ACL just 15 games into the season. Prior to her injury, Brink was leading the W in blocks and making her mark on the Los Angeles Sparks roster. While she was the National Defensive Player of the Year in college (among many other accolades), fans are still eager to see how Brink’s game can translate and grow in the pros.

IZZY SCANE 🥍

In 2024, Izzy Scane was the second-leading scorer in NCAA D1 lacrosse, averaging 4.19 goals per game. Scane is now taking her talents to the brand new Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL) and will play for the New York Charging squad as they chase the first-ever WLL Championship Series trophy.
