7 BREAKOUT SOFTBALL STARS TO WATCH
The countdown to the Women's College World Series is on, and this year's tournament promises to deliver unforgettable moments and career-defining performances. From unhittable pitchers to power-hitting phenoms, these seven breakout stars aren't just competing for a championship – they're redefining what's possible on the diamond.

NiJaree Canady
NiJaree Canady, the reigning USA Softball Player of the Year, transferred from Stanford to Texas Tech for her junior year, where she's dominating both on the mound and at the plate. She leads the country with a .90 ERA and boasts 228 strikeouts while also hitting .324 with 8 home runs. Canady recently made program history by leading Texas Tech to their first Big 12 regular season title and is now set for the Red Raiders first tournament berth since 2019.

Rylee McCoy
Oregon's freshman standout Rylee McCoy has stormed onto the collegiate softball scene. The star rookie is hitting an impressive .404 while launching 17 home runs — already tied for second-most in Ducks history. With 52 RBIs to her name, McCoy's bat has been crucial to Oregon's success, helping propel the Ducks to a regular season Big Ten championship where they edged out powerhouse UCLA in the final stretch. Oregon sits at No. 3 in the national rankings – McCoy's combination of consistency and power makes her a key player in the Ducks' championship aspirations.

Jasmyn Burns
One of the most explosive hitters in college softball this season, Jasmyn Burns is making waves as a sophomore catcher for the Buckeyes. With a scorching .476 batting average, and Ohio State single-season records with 22 home runs and 69 RBIs (and counting), Burns is a powerhouse at the plate and a leader behind it. Her recent record-breaking grand slam against rival Michigan cemented her as one of the top players to watch this postseason.

Karlyn Pickens
Karlyn Pickens has been nearly untouchable in the circle, after setting the NCAA record for fastest recorded pitch at 78.2 mph earlier this season. Before her record-breaking performance, she twice matched Tennessee legend Monica Abbott's 77 mph mark. Sporting an incredible 0.97 ERA and 221 strikeouts, the Lady Vols' ace has overpowered even the toughest SEC opponents. Now, Pickens aims to lead No. 2 Tennessee all the way to Oklahoma City.

Katherine “Kat” Rodriguez
The graduate transfer leads the nation with 83 RBI and is hitting an impressive .464, hoping to power North Carolina toward its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. But Kat Rodriguez’s impact extends beyond the stat sheet – her leadership, energy, and connection to UNC’s player-first culture have made her a centerpiece of the program’s resurgence. She also dominates international competition with Team Colombia, collecting silver medals at both the Bolivarian Games and South American Championships. With elite plate discipline, clutch power, and unmatched RBI production, Rodriguez is a force to be reckoned with.

Miah McDonald
Marist University's Miah McDonald has established herself as one of the most dominant offensive forces in collegiate softball. The graduate student infielder is batting .457 with 24 home runs – a new MAAC single-season record – and 62 RBI. Her performance this season earned her a unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection, along with MAAC Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season – becoming the first player to achieve this distinction since Niagara's Teresa Healy (2010-11).

Kasey Ricard
Boston University pitcher Kasey Ricard has been a strong force on the mound this season, posting a stellar 2.03 ERA and racking up 212 strikeouts. A native of Littleton, Massachusetts, she made headlines last season with a perfect game against Coastal Carolina. Off the field, Ricard spent her summer living out a childhood dream as a ball girl for the Boston Red Sox. Now in her junior year and leading the Terriers as team captain, her hometown pride and elite pitching skills make her one of the most exciting players to watch in college softball.
