Harvard celebrates history

Date: 1998

In the first round of the 1998 tournament, Harvard made history by becoming the first 16-seed to defeat a #1 seed after its victory over Stanford. In the years since, only two other 16-seeds have defeated the top seed, both on the men’s side – University of Maryland-Baltimore County in 2018 and Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2023.
